Ready for some of the hottest inshore action in Florida? Hop aboard with Dooley Charters for a full day of non-stop fishing in the pristine waters of Pine Island Sound. We're talking world-class catches, seasoned expertise, and memories that'll have you itching to get back on the water before you even hit the dock.

What to Expect on the Water

This ain't your average fishing trip, folks. We're talking a private, full-day charter that'll have you casting lines in some of Florida's most productive inshore waters. You and up to three buddies (with room for two more if you want to make it a party) will be hitting the sweet spots around Pine Island Sound, Captiva Pass, and the nearby backwaters. It's the perfect playground for anglers of all levels, from first-timers to seasoned pros.

Captain Shane's got over 20 years of experience under his belt, and he knows these waters like the back of his hand. He'll be your personal fish-finder for the day, adapting to conditions and making sure you're always on the bite. We're going after the inshore grand slam: snook, redfish, and spotted sea trout. But don't be surprised if you hook into some bonus species along the way.

Gear Up and Get Fishing

Leave your tackle box at home, because we've got you covered. We're running light tackle setups perfect for inshore fishing, and we'll be using live bait to entice those big boys to bite. All the gear, bait, and licenses are included in your trip. Just bring your game face, some snacks, and plenty of water to keep you fueled up for a full day of rod-bending action.

We'll be using a mix of techniques depending on what's working best. Expect to do some drift fishing over grass flats, sight casting along mangrove shorelines, and maybe even some dock fishing if the tide's right. Captain Shane will show you the ropes and have you dialed in on the local techniques in no time.

Top Catches This Season

Pine Island Sound is a year-round fishery, but each season brings its own highlights. In the cooler months, redfish school up in big numbers, and the trout bite can be off the charts. As things warm up, snook start to get more active, and you might even get a shot at hooking into the silver king himself – the mighty tarpon. Sheepshead are another fun target, especially around structure and oyster bars.

No matter when you come, there's always something pulling drag. And with a full day on the water, we've got plenty of time to chase whatever's biting best.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Snook: These hard-fighting linesiders are the rockstars of inshore fishing. They love to hang around structure, so we'll be working mangrove edges and dock pilings to tempt them out. Snook are known for their explosive strikes and acrobatic jumps. They're catch-and-release most of the year, but during open season, they make for some fantastic table fare.

Redfish: Also known as red drum, these copper-colored beauties are a favorite among anglers. They've got a distinctive spot on their tail, and they pull like freight trains when hooked. We'll be sight fishing for them in shallow water, watching for their tails as they root around for crabs and shrimp. The bull reds can push 40 inches or more!

Spotted Sea Trout: Don't let the name fool you – these aren't your average trout. Spotted sea trout, or "specks" as we call 'em, are aggressive predators that love to chase down lures and live bait. They've got a soft mouth, so setting the hook just right is part of the fun. We'll be drifting over grass flats and working potholes to find these tasty fighters.

Tarpon: The silver king is the ultimate bucket list fish for many anglers. These prehistoric beasts can grow over 100 pounds and put on an aerial show like no other when hooked. They migrate through our waters seasonally, usually peaking in late spring and early summer. Hooking one is thrilling – landing one is an accomplishment you'll never forget.

Sheepshead: With their distinctive black and white stripes, sheepshead are sometimes called "convict fish." They're notorious bait stealers, so catching them takes a bit of finesse. But man, are they worth it. We'll target them around structure using light tackle and small baits. Their flaky white meat is considered some of the best eating around these parts.

Why Anglers Keep Coming Back

It's not just about the fish (though they're a big part of it). Pine Island Sound offers some of the most scenic inshore fishing you'll find anywhere. You might spot dolphins playing in the wake, manatees cruising by, or ospreys diving for their lunch. The calm waters and stunning scenery make for a relaxing day, even when the fish are going crazy.

And let's be real – there's something special about being out on the water with your buddies or family, sharing laughs, swapping stories, and making new memories. Whether you're teaching the kids to fish or trying to outdo your fishing buddies, a day on the water with Dooley Charters is always time well spent.

Learn more about the species

Redfish

Redfish are one of our most popular inshore targets, known for their copper color and black spot near the tail. Most reds we catch run 18-27 inches, but trophy "bull reds" over 40 inches are possible. You'll find them tailing in shallow water or cruising oyster bars and mangrove shorelines. Redfish are here year-round but really turn on in fall and winter. Anglers love targeting them for their hard fights and excellent eating quality. To hook a red, try sight-casting with soft plastics or live bait in super skinny water. One local trick is to look for pushes or wakes - redfish often give themselves away as they move through shallow flats. When you do hook up, be ready for some serious pulling power. These fish use their broad tails to put up a stubborn battle all the way to the boat!

Redfish

Sea Trout

Spotted seatrout, or "specks" as we call them, are a staple of our inshore fishery. These silver fish with black spots typically run 15-20 inches, though gator trout over 25 inches are possible. You'll find them over grass flats and around oyster bars in 2-6 feet of water. Trout fishing is good year-round but peaks in spring and fall. Anglers love targeting them for their willingness to bite and great taste on the table. To catch specks, try working a soft plastic jig or live shrimp slowly across the bottom. My go-to trick is to fish the edges of grass flats on a moving tide - trout often stage there to ambush baitfish. When you feel that telltale tap-tap bite, set the hook quick. Trout have soft mouths, so a steady pressure is key to landing them.

Sea Trout

Sheepshead

Sheepshead are an oddball fish that can be a ton of fun to catch. Their human-like teeth and black-and-white striped bodies make them look like convicts. Most run 2-4 pounds, but bigger ones up to 10-15 pounds aren't uncommon. You'll find sheepshead around oyster bars, pilings, and other hard structures where they feed on crustaceans. They're here year-round but bite best in cooler months. Anglers target them for their sweet, white meat. Sheepshead are notorious bait stealers, so you've got to be quick on the hookset. I like using small hooks with fiddler crabs or pieces of shrimp. My top tip is to use as light a weight as possible so you can feel those subtle bites. When you do hook one, be ready for a stubborn fight - these fish punch above their weight class!

Sheepshead

Snook

Snook are one of our most popular inshore targets, known for their aggressive strikes and acrobatic jumps. These silver-sided fish with a distinctive black lateral line typically run 20-30 inches, though trophy catches over 40 inches aren't unheard of. You'll find snook around mangroves, docks, and other structures in shallow waters less than 10 feet deep. They're most active spring through fall when water temps are warmer. Anglers love snook for their hard-fighting nature and excellent table fare. To hook into one, try live bait like pinfish or whitebait near structure during moving tides. A local trick is to cast your lure or bait right up against mangroves or dock pilings - snook often ambush prey from these spots. Just be ready for an explosive hit and screaming drag when a big one strikes!

Snook

Tarpon

Tarpon are the kings of saltwater game fish around here. These silver giants can top 100 pounds and put on quite an aerial show when hooked. Look for them rolling and gulping air in deeper channels and passes, especially during their spring and early summer spawning runs. Tarpon fishing is all about the thrill of the fight - they're not great eating, but boy can they jump and run. Most anglers practice catch and release to conserve the population. For your best shot at landing the "silver king," we'll drift live bait like mullet or crabs in areas with good current flow. When a tarpon takes the bait, let it run for a few seconds before setting the hook hard. Then hang on tight - you're in for the battle of a lifetime!
